elk have the regs
« on: September 25, 2011, 01:39:32 PM »
was in the little naches unit this am with the wife trying to find a bear and some berries. all we found was elk, elk and more elk. saw 16 legal spikes and cows were behind every turn it seemed like. stopped 4 different times and heard bulls talking. its funny how last weekend when we were there for my wifes archery hunt. we couldnt find squat. i think they have the regs  and know when season is. i have never seen that many spikes in a day ever. it was very impressive, i am sure they know when rifle season starts. still nice to see.

And lawyers to interpret the regs.   :bash:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Sounds like you were pretty close to a spike release site.

Sounds about right.  I and my son were up in the bethel unit yesterday morning and seen a nice 5x5 just before sunrise so we stalked and waited and he kept looking back our direction as if he knew we were following him.  I let him get just out of sight and sent some cow calls to bring him closer and wouldn't you know it about 20 mins. left and these 2 trucks go hauling a$$ down below us at the bottom and spook him.  He's on a dead sprint uphill and after following and calling for over an hour nada!

Got on to another bull later but couldn't close the gap because it started raining like crazy and he got quiet and hunkered down so we called it after a couple of hours and started the long trek back to the truck.  Seen some cows off in the distance but my son was getting tired and hungry so they got a pass for now.

Good luck on the spikes and post a pic and story when you bring one home.
