7x57 hand loads?
« on: September 30, 2011, 08:08:28 PM »
I want to try out some 140grn Barnes TTSX, and I have good load data for IMR 4831, H 4350, or RL 19.  I unfortunately am limited on funds so can only afford to buy one powder at this time.  What would you guys do?  Please keep in mind that I am loading in an old Small ring Mauser so I cant go crazy on the pressures.
There's a reason they call it hunting, not killing.

I have had a 7x57 that was handed down to me fairly close to 25 years ago, my dads dad purchased it mail order and handed it down to my father and at 15 it was handed to me. I never owned a bb gun in my youth, I carried a .22. Things were different than they are now.

I use H4350, the same charge for three different bullets and out to 300 yards all three are almost identical in point of impact.

48.3gr of H4350
Fed 210M primer

140 Nosler Accubond
140 TTSX
140 Honrady Interlock

This is a rifle I used for in the timber with a straight 4x scope. I have a 200 yard zero with the Barnes 140 TTSX .So I am:

+3 @ 100 yards
-0- @ 200 yards
-6. @ 300 yards

Thanks for the input.  I picked up a pound of the IMR 4831 today.  I will probably work up some loads tomorrow night and try to get to the range one night this week.  If I dont like this powder I will give the H 4350 a try next.

for my 7x57 mouser I load Imr 4831 with 162 grn hornady btsp. The gun shoots great and is the most accurate rifle I own.
