Skunked this weekend
« on: August 24, 2008, 07:11:12 PM »
I spent all day Saturday scouting in the Lewis River unit and I got skunked.  No where near the quantity or quality of sign I'd hoped to find.  Country looked textbook elky on maps and in person, just thinly sprinkled with sign.  Not enough to convince me to change areas yet.  I'm used to elk hunting on the coast where the elk are resident and they really tear the place up.  Not sure whether the spot I picked to scout is no good, or if the elk are just more spread out.  Any thoughts?

Try up by Spencers Meadow/Wright Meadow Trail. I haven't hunted up there since 2003. Always saw elk and at least 1 of our hunting party of 4 got an elk.
