« on: October 02, 2011, 09:48:59 PM »
Two days in not a fresh track in sight.  Been all over the area I hunt and nothing.  Got a muzzy cow tag in my pocket and need to fill it!

Pm me and maybe we can discuss some different areas in 340 you can try. I have the modern cow tag and have done some scouting in that area

Last year I went up 2 days before the season started to scout.  Scouting was a waste of time; I saw lots of animals and the bulls were bulging but as opening day drew near, more and more camps sprung up.  Many of the places where I had seen elk had tents on or near them by opening morning.  No surprise that the elk had moved, the trick is finding where they go to hide.

cow tag last year...one scared spike and a cow the day before.  then it was hotter than a two-bit pistol all week and nothing.  hunted all the canyons we could high and low...nothing.  this year another cow tag in the party.  lots of sign and one cow on the camera day before.  so much sign at tammy springs...nothing visual.  then the wind rain and cold dusting of snow...nothing at wally springs or quartz mtn deadend road.  so six more years before another cow tag comes my way.  may try another area entirely or hoist my sorry arse into the tree and wait for them.  if you could eat sign...my freezer would be full.  thats why they call it hunting and not shooting.
