Help and elk newb out?
« on: October 05, 2011, 03:44:31 PM »
well, since I was lucky enough to tag out on the early deer this year this leaves me with a whole other week of time off from work I have to fill out, so I think this year its time to give elk 100% of my attention and it will be my 2nd time hunting elk, so hears my question.
the area I am planning to hunt is the NE corner from 204oky-east all the way down to 121 huckleberry but I can't really get a unit pegged as "elky" to me, all I really want out of this hunt is some experience and hopefully a cow elk or small bull to fill up the freezer if i'm lucky. My plan is to take my 4x4 and either sleep in it or a tent setup pending the weather thats close to an area I can walk in 2-3 miles with my pack frame, I am not opposed to spike camping or staying out in the woods afew days just can't see packing a whole elk out by myself thats more than 4+ miles out.
so I guess my question is do I even stand a chance at finding some cows out there?, or even a small bull in the 111/117/113?  not looking for anyones hot spot or anything more of if its worth the time/money.

People don't like to share elk info in those areas. Mostly because they are hard to find. They are there. My best advice is get behind locked gates in nonmotorized access areas.

yeah kinda figured both those points but hey any good info even though small is still good to me. kinda leaning towards either the oky or sherman units, but we'll see.
