Palouse 4x4
« on: October 17, 2011, 11:31:44 AM »
I got this guy opening morning. Spotted him getting out of his bed after the fog cleared. I was waiting on shooting hoping my dad would see him and get the shot but he ran about 20 yards up hill towards a game reserve before stopping. I shot and double lunged him. He then ran about another 70 yards before stopping again. I was going to let him get any closer to the game reserve so i shot again hitting him in the heart. he made it about another 20 yards before being down for the count. I was pleasantly surprised when i got up to him and noticed how much mass he had.

He is by far my biggest buck so I'm getting him mounted. I talked to taxidermist and he told me if i paid in full upfront i could get it back within 6 months otherwise it would be 9-11 months. Ive never had anything mounted before. Is that pretty standard practice? I have the funds to pay it all upfront and i would like it back sooner than later, but i would also like to have a little bit of leverage in case something comes. Any suggestions on what I should do?

I would try to see if he would do 80% upfront and withhold the 20% for when he is finished. Shooting for the same date of course. I would want to keep some leverage in the deal like you said. Nice deer BTW, that is a great WT.

Rushing a trophy mount never turns out very good for the hunter, I'd find a different taxi in a hurry if I heard that  :twocents:

Nice job on the deer though and taking out the coyote as well !!

I told him ill just wait and only put half down. I was really pleased with the work he has in the show room. Hopefully mine turns out as good.

Nice Buck!  Congrats

Nice Buck.  I would not pay anyone unless I know them real real well. Trusted a few people and paid them 100% up front for work....the work never happened  :bash: People have a lot more incentive to finish the job when money is owed to them.

Great buck, congrats.

:twocents: Getting your buck back in 9-11 months seems to be pretty normal or even quicker than normal. I've seen a few threads on here where people's mounts have been butchered. I wouldn't pay anyone in full unless you know them. Wait and see if they do a satisfactory job before you pay them in full.

And on the other hand if other folks pay in full up front that puts their animals ahead of yours so who knows how long it will take to get to yours, 9-11 or 14-16.............  :dunno:
