freezer's full.
« on: October 31, 2011, 02:13:08 PM »
rode our bikes in a few miles on saturday PM to some public hunting land. warm out. no rain and no wind. not ideal blacktail conditions.

set up on the far side of a clear cut. decent cover and great visibility. spent a few hours staring at the tree line thru my binos. about 5pm caught the unmistakable white fur of a deer's face/brisket. pulled up my binos in a hurry. was shaking pretty good. it was a doe, so no shot but fun to watch. she kept looking behind her (i was patiently waiting for her suitor) then she disappeared back into the trees. i readjusted and caught a sneaky little buck moving to my right. he was broadside at about 30 yds and feeding out from the treeline. he took a few steps and put his head down to nibble. i adjusted for the shot and when he raised his head i counted two ears and two horns (any buck) so i pulled the trigger.

horns so small i couldn't tie my tag to 'em. had to tie it to his ear.  ;)

buck down. had to drag him about half a mile then tied him to my bike to walk him out the remaining mile and a half.

fun hunt. beautiful night. great memories and the freezer's full.

That's really cool how you taught him to ride so quick.  Always wondered if you could take one of those kids carts you pull behind a bike to carry a deer in and never thought of just drapping him like that.  Congrats on a great hunt!
