Mountain bikes
« on: July 11, 2008, 04:59:10 PM »
Anybody got any input on a hunting type inexpensive mountain bike to ride these locked gate roads? I'm getting older and can't run the ground I use to. And the law won't like me take my Harley up there scouting.

If you are just gonna stick to the gravel road, then any mountain bike would do.  Wal-mart carries them.  But, take your bike to a professional bike shop to have it tuned properly.  The employees at Wal-mart may not know how to do that, they just assemble them.
A bike shop may have a better selection, with better quality bikes: lighter, better/more durable gears, etc.

Look on Craig's list for them.  I picked up a Specialized A few years back for $50 and it is about a $300 or more bike.  I have also put about $150 - $200 in to it.  I put a head light, a pump, big gel seat, under the seat  bag with tire patch accessories, A front fender to keep some of the mud off, a cargo rack over the back tire and a trip speed and odometer on it. I also have an handlebar gunrack attached to it but I am going to modify that and weld some pipes on the front to get them off the handlebars.  My buddy is going to weld up a goose neck attachment so we can pull our gamecarts behind our bikes.
