Last Seen Dead...On Here.

Have any of you guys scouted a public area or even private area and seen a nice buck or elk before or during the season and couldn't shoot it or just passed on it, then the next time you see it's posted on the forum by a member who shot the animal or has a picture of it.

I've never seen a post by a dead member. That I know of anyway. :dunno:

Passed a small bear opening day of spring bear last year,  and saw it posted on here.... it was killed on the same logging road I passed it on...

Yeah, last year I was bear hunting with some buddies up in the Colville area and took some really crappy (disposable camera) photos of a moose.  He was very distinctive; just a hair under 50" we figured, with super long tines in the back of his paddles that looked like upside down icicles.  We watched him at about 50 yds on 2 separate occasions for over 30 minutes.
About a month later someone came on this site with harvested pictures of him.  (I can't remember who it was).

Also, we had a "pet monster" bull up at our elk camp that none of us could ever draw a tag for.  We all had seen him and figured he would go about 400".  Last year a guy posted a muzzleloader killed bull from the same unit that he said went 396", and I was pretty sure it was him (would have had to see the rack from another angle to be sure).  This year, "Growly" was no where to be found, and I don't think anyone found his sheds.

My partner got a text of a deer I put a stalk on in early archery and was killed in general rifle... Not too depressed though.  It would have been a nice first archery deer, but was only about 23" wide 3 pt with short backs.  But still  :o

It didn't happen to me but it happened with two bruiser whitetail last year on here. One of them was the highest scoring nontypical killed in the state for the 2010 season (at least that we know of) and the other was a buck that the Alwine crew killed and then someone posted trailcam pics of the brute a couple days later asking what he would score.

The second one you refered to was me!! I got trailcam pics of a big whitetail.....I posted the pics to see how wide people thought the buck might be, after a couple of replys someone posted a pic of Alwine and his buddy holding him Dead!!!   :bash: :bash:  And with an accurate inside measurement... 26 inches!!  Heck of a buck!!

I also know the guy who killed the first Buck you refered to!!  Im sure the guy who got pics of that buck only to have someone else kill him will be depressed for years to come about what could have been... :chuckle: :chuckle:
Didnt that buck score just over 218??

While bow hunting true spike in the Colockum, I video'd a monster bull elk.  Later on through the Fall, I saw the "Permit" holder post a pic of it Dead.  I was pretty sad to see that monster dead....But Good for that "permit" holder :)

Man I agree...that was one heck of a buck! I couldn't remember who it was but I do remember them coming back with the exact dimensions.  :chuckle:

I don't know what the buck grossed but he is in the B&C record book with an official net score of 208 4/8. Gib was going to try and put me in contact with the hunter so I could write the story but I am guessing the hunter wasn't interested.

You kill a buck yet?

Very nice! Good luck on your hunt. It has definitely been rough going for me. One of the monsters I have been chasing for two seasons showed up during daylight on 13 Nov....and I was in a stand 300 yards to the South  :bash:. To make matters worse I haven't seen him on cam since the 15th  :bash: :bash:. I have cameras up everywhere but he is a no show. I am thinking he might have moved lower when we go the big snow fall (which a lot of it melted). Either that or he is out cruising for does and will show back up soon (which is what I am hoping for).

The other big guy I am after is very nocturnal and I have yet to get a daylight photo of him since well before early season.

That being said I can't really complain. I am getting to spend a lot of time in the woods and I have had opportunities at a handful of 130-140 class bucks so all in all it has been a good season.

I had a different mature buck, (not as big as the one above) coming in like clockwork, he dissapeared around the 20th and didnt come back untill yesterday!    Hopefuly yours will do the same!

I think they will show back up as soon as it turns a little cooler, I also think the rut may be hanging on a little later than last year....prob out chasing a few late does....

The rut has definitely been a little odd this year. We saw the first hardcore chasing on 11 Nov....and it is still going from what I can tell. Winter range, rut or died of predator/natural causes...those are the only reasons I can think of that the buck has disappeared.

2nd Estrus will move bucks out of their traditional territory.  Lots of bucks competeing for a few does that didn't get pregnant in the first cycle, or yearling does that come into season late.
Those that aren't chasing does will be in recovery mode.  Lots of bedding and feeding, and not a lot of moving.

That is a dandy buck! Its been crazy here as well. They were going like made around the 10-16th and then a bad batch of weather came in and they went into a food mode. Now they are really messing around again :dunno: The buck I killed on the 29th was all puffy as well.

I know what you mean. Normally I see a little break before the 2nd estrus starts but this year that hasn't been the case. I do notice a lot of them are the yearling does they are chasing now though.

Those yearling does can come into estrus at any time depending on their age.  The older does that didn't get pregnant will come back into cycle a certain number of days after the last one.

Alwine told me he will gross right around 150. He is a masher of a main frame 4x4. Congrats to the lucky hunter (whoever that may be).

Alwine told me he will gross right around 150. He is a masher of a main frame 4x4. Congrats to the lucky hunter (whoever that may be).

Yeah, Matts got a pic with this guys rack on his facebook.  Absolutly beautiful buck.
