Selah Powersports - Not pleased

I took 2 honda Trail 90's into selah powersports this summer. Seemed like good guys workin there. They quoted me $400 to get the 2 of them running. Well it ended up being about $600- I can deal with that.


Got the bikes home and right off the bat, I can see that the back brake on one is just hanging on the side of the bike - not connected at all...

I get the bikes goin and ride it around my property about once per day just to practice getting them started. A few days after bringing the bikes home, I notice they are both leaking gas. No clips were ever put on the lines to securely seal them.

Me and a friend start doing a little maintenance on the bikes and take out the spark on one of them. The plug looks stripped from the get-go and we cannot get it back in the bike. It looked like they jammed it in there and totally ruined the threading. I bought a new spark the other day and it won't go in.


1 bike won't even start
1bike is incapable of having a spark plug.

I guess that I should have taken the bikes back but I was gone for weeks at a time due to hunting season.

Any suggestions? I'm sure that they are fixable, just not by me.

Anyone else have any experience dealing with these guys?

I feel like I'm out nearly a grand for 2 bikes that were suppose to be safe investments.

Should be fixable...pull the head off the top end to get a good look at what exactly happened to the threads. Might be able to straighten out the threads yourself if you know someone with a tap and dye set or have a machine shop do it Hope you get them running without to much work

You can buy spark plug taps, try NAPA and see if they have them

take the bikes and a lawyer to see them. Then take it to a reputable shop and have them send the first shop the bill.

back in 2005 I plunked down about 7 grand for a new woodland camo 660 grizz ATV , during PDI I hear some banging coming from the shop.
 
I peeked behind the door and seen this dude pounding in a bolt with a ball peen hammer,  I said "dude WTF, thats not a nail"
It was a battery hold down bolt, not a super big deal although its still stripped out to this day.
I was pissed off, got the bike and finished the PDI myself
 
 
I really do not trust any shop.
 
I made a deal with the local arctic cat shop and took home my brand new M8 snowmobile in a box, told them I wouldn't buy it if any of them touched it before I did.
 
they got a forklift and slid it into the back of my truck, been a perfect sled not one single issue.  2007 M8

ya they were just putting the wheels, handlebars etc etc on after removing if from the crate.  So I hadn't even gotten to sit on yet and some jackweed is beating on it with a hammer

My thoughts exactly.  Maybe they are good about making sure the customer is happy; you're not happy; maybe they'll work with you.  Right now it seems you're working on an assumption that they want to screw you.

i seen someone else post on craigslist bad mouthing them to about a quad he bought there. dont remember what the problem was though.

Sorry you had trouble with them E-burg.  Don't know anything about them, but I do know that I have a small atv-motorcycle repair shop, so if they won't work with you and you still need some help, let me know and I can fix you up.  Good luck.

I can work on most brands, my shop is located up on Chinook Pass, which I know is a way out of the way, but I do offer free pickup and dilevery to Yakima, if we can arrainge it with my regular work schedule.  I charge $55/hr. which I think is around $20/hr less than most of the motorsports shops around Yakima.  I only use Amsoil synthetic lubricants and I'm a dealer for just about everything for ATV's, dirtbikes, snowmobiles and 4 wheel drive vehicles.  If you are not in a big hurry, I think I can help you out.

I bought my 02 Grizzly from the same idiot that used to own it. They couldn't even grease my Grizzly right. I take all my stuff to Xtremepowersports in Okanogan. I bought 2 Can Ams there and got rid of the Grizzly.

When you took the plug out, did it come out real stiff? Was it hard to turn the wrench? When you have an aluminum head and the plug has not been removed in a long time. The threads tend "braze" themselves to the plug because of the over heat. When you back the plug out the threads come with it. The way I fixed mine is with a "Heli coil" or replace the head. I don't think it was the shop's fault about your plug. Unless you had them change the plugs.

It is tough to establish guilt on a cross threaded plug, but for the money you spent....call them and see if they will fix it. I am curious what the parts bill was?

I am the owner of Selah Powersports and I am truly sick of reading this topic.  I am familiar with the guy here who claims we messed up his Honda trail bikes.  He came in and told us to get the bikes running. Carbs were full of crap from neglect. He gave us a budget of $200 total and we did the work to get them both running. He did not authorize ANY other work including brakes.  Then when he picked up the bikes he told us we should have fixed the brakes and fixed his stripped spark plug too. Just being cheap. Did not want to pay for the work. He's the worst kind of customer who hires us for a small amount of work and then expects a full restoration when he picks it up.  We did not strip his spark plug, it came in that way.  He did need $600 in work but did not have the money to do it.   We can't win in that situation. Then we get slammed in this forum unfairly to top it off.  NOT TRUE.
ALSO back in 2005  WE were not even in business. We started in 2007 in Naches.  SO how could we have been banging on a Yamaha Grizzly when we werent even open yet???  That post is complete BS!  We have done repair since 2009 in our new Selah Location.
John H. is an excellent mechanic with nine years total experience and he works very hard for his customers to get the best repairs done at the lowest price. Selah Powersports is the alternative to high price OEM dealers.
We are the only shop in town that even takes in older bikes and make an honest effort to find and order stock parts and work on older bikes that the big shops in town wont even touch.  I hope customers will give us the benefit of the doubt and come see what we really offer for  customers wanting to fix and service bikes and atv,s.  We have all the off brand parts for bikes purchased on line.  So be fair and tell the truth about my shop.   Any fool with a keyboard can tell a story.   The facts are harder to find.

Well welcome to the forum. Glad you are on board. Thanx for your side of the story. I am sorry that your first post is a defense post.  When I was a kid my  mother told me that there is "ALWAYS" two sides to every coin. If you look at my previous post, there could have been other reasons why the threads were crossed. If you are trying to make a living and run a buisness...and the shop truely efed up. Than I would think the shop would make it right. To continue to run the buisness in good standing. I have dealt with a lot of motorcycle shops over the years and they ALL stand by there workmanship.         you are being drug through the mud.

All I know is that my brother and I have used Selah powersports to buy parts and for advice and they have been very helpful and great to work with. I would highly reccomend them.
