If it's a 1949 .300 H&H Winchester Model 70, you've got a true classic and a collector's piece. That's a terrific hunting rifle, and much more valuable if left un-modified.

thanks for the advice...I cant remeber if it has the rear sight but it definitly has the front and the scope is probally as old as the gun aswell....

I would take a guess and say it's one of the old Weaver K series scopes?
