22-250 for yotes
« on: February 03, 2012, 08:54:13 PM »
So i just got a 22-250 for yotes and other small game, should i zero it at 100 yd. or maybe 200 yd. ? It has a 3-9 x 40 scope. Just curious what you coyote killers think, i have heard good things about the 22-250 just trying to get my set up right when i get it sighted in this weekend.

You can do what I call the "poor man's boresighter".  I sandbag the upper or bolt gun, or set it in my Tipton Gun Vise on the workbench, open the door and look through the bore at an object 30 or 40 yards away, and adjust the crosshairs in the scope to the same spot.  It gets you "on the paper" at 25 yards, then a few shots to adjust for 100, 150, or 200 yards, and you're there without chasing hits all over the target.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

You can do a ruff bore site on it if you want. It will save you some ammo and time. Take the bolt out of the gun. Then have your target at like 25 yards. Set the gun in your vise or something to hold it secure. Look threw the back of the gun down the barrel with the barrel pointing at the target. Then once the target is centered in your barrel adjust the cross hairs to the center of the target without moving the gun off the target. I use to do this a lot with new guns before the laser bore sights came out :chuckle: It works very well for getting even the first shots on paper

Ok might have to try that rough bore sight out in the backyard tommorow, that'll make the neighbors look twice, they already look at me funny when i shot my bow at my deer target :chuckle:

shouldnt take more than a few shots to sight anything in.

after the poor mans bore sight (I do it at a much longer distance, did my AR at 500yds out the back door looking at something in the field.

Then you can do this

Yeah i guess sometimes the easy way can save you some time. I would just rather hear real responses than watching how to videos sometimes i guess.

I keep mine about an inch high at 200 yrds that puts it a couple inches low at 300 and a couple high at 100 so I can hold on fur to 300yrds no fooling wit clicks and dots.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska
