Got a new toy need 6.5 284 savage
« on: February 17, 2012, 07:02:12 AM »
From what I have read there is some gun savvy people on here, I just bought a savage model 110 6.5-184 Norma synthetic camo stock with the fluted barrel  I put a vortex viper 6.5 -x20x50 scope on it. How do they shoot? Did i make a good decision on the rifle scope combo? I don't know when i will make it out to shoot it, just want to know what to expect. I hope in the future to put some coyotes on the ground, any info will help.

" How do they shoot?"

The more important question is how do you shoot, and only you can answer that.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with how well your combo shoots. I've had a pile of different Savage rifles and they've all shot very well. Some of them shot freakishly well!

I think the most important thing to remember about Savages is not to over clean the barrel. 75% of my factory barrels shoot better after about 15 rounds through them. So after you break the barrel in, just clean the barrel when your groups start to open up. don't worry about scrubbing the bore after every range trip.

Congrats on the new gun and let us know how it shoots.

I decided on my build to go with the 6.5 x 284 to pick up some speed over the 260 rem , since the 140's are to long for a short action . the shorter barrell life for me is out wieghed by better performance .

Well i finally madw it out to do some shooting the 6.5 284 is an awesome flat shooting gun. I haven't really got to figure the scope out since bullets r 51 $ a box, I just ordered 100 lapua brass with the 140 grain berger lead. I did manage to smoke a coyote at 440 yards don't know if it was luck or not because i haven't got to see another coyote.
