Prone Bi-pod recomendations
« on: March 15, 2012, 11:41:28 AM »
I want to get a bipod for prone shooting.

It needs to mount on a sling stud. I am not interested in a bipod for the sitting position, so a starting length of 6 to 7 inches is probalby best. Weight is not an issue.  Cost is not a huge concern, but under $200 or so would be nice.

I am looking at this one:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/781176 ... to-9-black

If you could select any bipod for stud mount prone shooting, what would you get?

I have a Harris Bipod. There is one thing you have to remember. Having a synthetic stock on my rifle then having the bipod made it top heavy. This made my rifle always want to swing down when packing on my shoulder.

I use the harris pivoting bipod on my. 300RUM. I have the one that maxes out around 13". I have found myself shooting with it fully extended from the prone position more than I thought I would.

Cool.  This is going to go on a long range rifle that I will be putting together over the next couple months.  The rifle will weigh in at around 16 pounds and will be about 50 inches long, so it is not one I forsee slinging over my shoulder and hauling around in the field.  Due to that, I am not worried about weight or balance issues - but all valid points for field rifles!

I was thinking 338 edge, but a got a steal on a 338 Lapua Mag from Savage so I went that route.
