Remington 700 Mountain Rifle or Ruger M77 MKII All Weather.  With scopes, both are less than about 7 lbs.

Pre M70 in a Mcmillan edge Compact and a #2 Rock Creek spout with a wee shank chambered in 280AI.

Ain't a fly weight but handles like it should and is plenty light enough for me.

Can't see where a 84M Montana in 308 would suck at anything, as a do all pack rifle.

Have a skinny friend that packs a Weatherby 30-378 Accumark with 6-24 Leupold everywhere and never complains. Especially when the closest range is pushing 600yds.

I typically carry a 325WSM Kimber 8400 Montana with 2.5-8 VX3 at a bit under 8lbs fully loaded with sling.

Gonna likely carry my semi-custom Remington 700 BDL in 280AI this year and with a new stock should have it well under 8lbs depending on what stock I get.

christensen 300wsm with a 180 vld toppd with a  vx3 cds....and stoney point shooting sticks
$4000 later! lol i am looking at a christensen 300 winmag for $2500 we will see...keeping my fingers crossed, it would be even better if i could throw a nightforce scope on it!

I wouldn't spend a dime on a christensen rifle. A) carbon wrapped barrels are insulators that dot let your barrel cool down and will unzip like the fly in your jeans if they get hot. B) there are a TON of negative review on Christensens barrels and people not getting them to shoot well. C) for the money you spend for a Christensen rifle, you could have a custom built rifle that's more accurate and exactly what you want/need.

That being said, I pack a Benchmark built .338 Edge with a Nightforce 5.5-22x scope. The combo weighs 14.5lbs and I dont ever leave it at home. The thing is a HAMMER out to 1300 yards with 300gr Berger OTM Hybrids @ 2850 fps.

Interesting to hear that, couple guys and I have been looking into lighter rifles for extended trips.  The Christensen rifles were brought up (more of a someday wish to spend that kind of $$ though), but I hadn't heard much about them other than the occasional commercial on T.V., initially sounded like a pretty neat concept to go with carbon fiber.

Read some of the posts in this thread from the top rifle builders in the country.

Then read this test of barrel heat dissipation.....

No thanks, my stainless barrel works just fine....

I shoot a Christensen arms rifle. I'm not an expert on guns but the fact is
It shoots great  its very light and it handles the elements very well.

Remington 700 SPS w/ Nikon 3-9x40  or Smith & Wesson 629, 8 3/8" which weighs nearly as much but makes jungle hunting blacktails easier.
Glad to see I'm not the only one dragging an SPS into the back country.

Win. Extreme weather in 30-06 with vx III 2.5x8 in talley ringes or a M70 stainless 338 win. Mag with turned down barrel and cut.to 22" in a HS precision stock and a vx III 2.5x8 in talley rings . Both rigs weigh in at roughly 7.5-7.75 lbs but that good for me. I have done the ultra light thing and the balance between light weight and still being able to get well placed shots and a good sjootable rifle puts them at 7.5 lbs for.myself.

That rifle of autodink's is one hell of a mountain rifle. How did it work again on that giant bull you shot last year Brent?

Here is my setup.

Tikka action with trigger set at 1.25 lbs.
26" Brux #5 fluted barrel.
6.5-06 Ackley improved.
Weighs 9 lbs 8 oz and shoots nice little groups.

Three shots 100 yds.
