Crawdad traps

After reading the location thread, I looked into the dads some, figured I might give it a try. Checked on traps at a couple places & found (after reading the regs a few times ) that none were state compliant. Looked at a few how to vids to build my own & came up the same. One of the salesmen even told me ,this is my favorite & works great,They dont enforce crawdad rules anyway.
Well,Im smart enough to build my own, But would like to see what others have come up with & are useing & get a little more input on baits, depth ect..
Been a looong time since we did this as kids & would like to give it a go.
When we were kids we cleaned our trout on one corner of the dock & if we were there for more than a couple days, Gramps would have us set the trap for the last nights dinner.

I just use the danielson barrel traps they sell at wholesale sports.

Those Danielsen traps work real good, I've always done well using chicken thighs/wings for crawdads. Put the trap as close to cover without being on it as you can.

I would follow the crawfish rules to a tee! They do inforce the laws! Marked bouy and cotton string that rots out if trap is lost.

use a can of tuna. poke about three holes in the top.

Tuna in "oil" not water!!
Leaves an oil slick right to your trap, very productive.

I always used raw chicken, current is fine as long as you are putting the trap right against some cover but not all spots will have crawdads so you need to check it every so often and move the trap if you aren't catching any. Shallow water is a lot better after dark, don't expect much in water less than 5 feet deep during the day.
