Suicidal whacko vermin ruined my bear hunt!
« on: August 03, 2008, 08:44:01 PM »
GD whacko vermin kept terrorizing me in my tent all weekend, and I had to sleep two of the nights in my damn Bronco!!!
  :mgun: :pee:
I tried to get sleep for two nights, and on Thursday and Friday night, some kind of terrorist vermin kept buzzing my tent, scurring all over the damn place, thumping into the side of my tent next to me head, scared the bajeezees out of me the first time it happened. Friday night was bad too! Put me in a bad mood for my hunt, then it rained all friday, a group of tree huggers moved into my campsite on Thursday before I got there, so I set up higher in elevation, apparently in a spot that really bothered some kind of vermin! Neve figured out what they were, but put a propane light on super low all night outside the tent, and finally got a full nights rest on Satruday night...  Next time I am bringing Decon and Traps!!!

Die Vermin *censored*s!!!

No berries, no bear, just fresh peels...couldn't make it happen....

Actually, it looked like the lack of berries is a good thing for the hunter, you can concentrate on reprod for bears. Once the berries come, the bears in the area I hunt could be anywhere.

So Iceman, you must have grown up with mice in your bedroom like I did. Those sounds stay with you the rest of your life. I can sleep through thunder storms, rain, wind, but one lousy mouse will wake me up out of a deep sleep.

When I was elk hunting over by Packwood years ago, I saw this setup that really worked.
Take a bucket and fill about half full of water. Take an empty roll of toilet paper and coat it with peanut butter.
Run a wire through it and tie each end to the bucket. Place the roll in the middle. Place a ramp up to the edge of the bucket.
The critters will jump to the roll and fall in. The guy who showed me this trick caught as many as 15 per night.

Mouse traps are on my list for Idaho.  For some reason they like a warm tent with lots of food? ???

Hoofsnwings... Yeah, I have made a few of those hypothermia traps for our deer camp. Even gave one to an ol' timer to keep the mice out of his cook shack. They work good. I use nails thru the bucket into a wooden closet rod size dowel, PB on the rod, and down they go, poor little *censored*s.

I am thinking these were bigger than your normal mousy. I don't know what else would be crusing the woods looking to bother me, I will find out though next time I go. "Victor" my snappy little friend will be my deputy. There not enough room in this woods for the two of us! Its a going to be a showdown, me against them, and the smelly little camp robbers are going to pay!!

Well, if they were timber tigers, they can be very annoying. If you had that much activity I would check your engine compartment for nests. They will get in there and cause some damage. Kangaroo rats usually are few in number for any given area. But they can jump high up on a tent. Put the tent up in the back yard and wash it down with a garden hose, inside and out. It will dry fast in this warm weather. Maybe in an earlier outing some food was spilled.

Guess I better stop cooking and eating in my tent..... :chuckle:

Ya know..., food, schmood! I deserve the right to eat my damn fig newtons in my tent without having vermin want their fare share! They get no share!

Another tactic is when you arrive at your site, put some food out covered in caynene pepper. By the time you are ready for bed, the critters have decided to leave you alone. It works well around the bird feeder, keeping the squirrels away.
