He's going to Jamestown college. Do you have to put in if your archery hunting? I was kinda looking over the regs and saw you have to put in for rifle.

Its Amazing especially around devils lake, and 99 percent of the private land will allow you to hunt. You'll love the hunting. Just not the weather.

Awesome! im really excited. I won't care so much about weather as long as i can kill some ducks and have a great chance a nice white tail.

Hey buddy it is true. Their may be an unlimited number of white tail tags but I can promise you wont get any unless you apply. You cannot head over to walmart or Scheel's sports center and buy deer tags on the spot.

I was looking it up earlier this year cause I have some family that has property over there and you have to put in for a tag and I thought the deadline was in April I could be wrong. They only draw 5% of the tags for non residents.

If by "apply" for a tag you mean purchase on-line, then yes, you can't hunt anywhere without "applying".
Click here to "apply" for a non-resident whitetail archery tag and have it mailed to your house. http://gf.nd.gov/licenses/purchase-licenses-online

You must put in for a lottery draw for Rifle tags.  The deadline to apply is June 6.

Umm you can hunt WA st without applying and MN. You can go in and buy over the counter, while as in North Dakota you cannot. And yes their are deadlines to all draws. Trust me. I'm from there born and raised.

Nonresident Licenses

Deer gun, moose, elk, bighorn sheep, tundra swan and wild turkey licenses are issued by lottery and require special application procedures. Go to Online Services to learn what lottery licenses are available at the present time or download and print an application

My buddy is working in the oil fields right now and does not have resident status. He bought an over the counter archery whitetail tag, so maybe something has changed since you moved.

non resident- buck draw you can buy and kill three bucks if you get drawn for all three!!! that is the coolest thing ever!!! plus doe tags are pretty cheap too.

muzzleloader is only draw for whitetail the whole state is open if drawn.

then modern is draw but is a certain unit only if drawn

Archery whitetail over the counter the whole state is open

That area has some dandy bucks. find an area away from the towns and if it isnt posted you can hunt it so that is super awesome.  Find someone with alfafa fields and corn standing once the snow hits it is a great hunt but super cold!!! I was hunting in 06,07,09 shot a nice 3x3  22" wide heavy horned that had been wounded durning gun season 5 minutes left in the hunt the night before I flew out.   I missed a monster buck the night before with kickers and long tines because I hadn't changed my powder everytime I got in an out of the truck.  It was -34 degrees out and the gun would frost up from the cold to the warm truck and my powder got wet and messed up from it.  So change powder alot if muzzleloading.  It happened twice to me on that trip before I figured out what happened from a guy in town.  I will dig up a picture if I can find one. Its a good state to hunt too.

One could dream that Washington would give private landowners this perk.

Gratis Resident & Nonresident Landowner
Eligibility:  An individual who is a resident, corporation, limited liability company, limited liability partnership, limited partnership,or partnership that has executed a lease for at least one hundred sixty acres [64.75 hectares] of land and that actively farms or ranches that land or an individual, corporation, limited liability company, limited liability partnership, limited partnership, or partnership that holds title to at least one hundred sixty acres [64.75 hectares] of land is eligible to apply for a license to hunt deer without charge, or if that entity is a nonresident upon payment of the fee requirement for a nonresident big game license, upon filing a signed application describing that land. If the license is issued to a corporation, limited liability company, limited liability partnership, limited partnership, or partnership, only one license may be issued and the license must be issued in the name of an individual shareholder, member, or partner. The land must be within a unit open for the hunting of deer.

Resident licenses required:
Gratis Permit, no charge. No other licenses required.  (see *Note above)

Nonresident licenses required:
Nonresident Landowner Permit, $220 (Fee includes: Landowner Permit, $200, Application fee, $5, Nonresident Fishing, Hunting and Furbearer Certificate, $2, and General Game and Habitat License, $13) (see *Note above).

It is just a different culture back there. Heck honorably discharged vetrans don't even pay for deer tags or fishing licenses in MN. Active duty from any state get those perks as well.

I was thinking about putting in for rifle deer. What units would you guys suggest that have hunted there in the past?

Honestly I put in for the west units by the border of Montana some big mulie bucks there but you will be lucky to draw it without a ton of points but alot of units are good for whitetails.  Muzzleloader I drew my first time I put in and now have 5 points for muzzle and have 6 for rifle and only put in for hard draws for rifle though.
