I'd suggest not shooting a cow until the absolute last minute of legal light on the last day of the hunt.  It's probably going to be awhile until you get that opportunity again.

You have a bull permit and a cow permit collect?   Bull permit starts opening day?  Cow permit a few days later?  Its a judgment call I would have to make during the season it just depends on how many elk I'm seeing day to day.  Good luck with your tags.

If you have the modern rifle tags, you can hunt for bulls 9 full days before the cow season opens.  I wouldn't pop a cow until the last weekend.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Should not be a problem, but if you are unsure, Norsepeak has a guide service up there and has taken Disabled hunters out on many occupations.

My  :twocents:  is take the entire time to fill the bull tag and make that your priority because that is by far the better of the two in my opinion, but it's ultimately your choice.

I had that tag last year and it is not a question if you will see cows.  I saw cows every day and in areas that were easily accessable by a vehicle so that shouldn't be a problem.  the bulls may be a little more difficult but you have the entire first week before any other rifle hunters to get after him and you can still get a decent bull from some of the jeep trails and roads if you catch them in the right spot don't be disappointed or worried about that they are out there and accessable. best of luck to you and hold out for that bull it may be many moons before you are afforded another opportunity.
