Montana Elk Hunt
« on: October 22, 2012, 12:22:01 PM »
My hunting partner and I want to hunt elk in Montana.  We both want to take a nice big bull.  One of the things we want to scratch off the 'Bucket List'...hunt big elk...where there is actually elk to hunt.

I am wondering about outfitters and who recommends who for a good reliable hunt, with a good success rate.
I have never hunted Montana and am not afraid to say I know nothing about guided hunts.
We are seasoned elk hunters and both my partner and I have taken elk; a few spikes and cows through the years, but nothing big.

This time we want something big, a hunt of a life time...for us.
If any of you guys know of some outfitters that can help us out, that would be great.
If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.

try Bearpaw, who is a local on this site and I believe he hunts in Montana. He may be able to lead you in the right direction if he can't help. Dale is a great guy and I've heard nothing but great stories from his operation.
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming

Have you considered Colorado?  I have not hunted either Montana or Colorado but am applying and building points in Montana.  If you are talking about hiring a guide you might be able to buy a landowner tag in Colorado or I belive they also have over the counter tags and hiring a guide with an OTC tag might get you into the type of hunt your are looking for.  Again, just a thought and I am no expert on the subject of out of state hunting.  Don't even think about applying for a special permit through the Colorado drawing because it will take years and years and years to draw a premium tag.
