Best tree stand for 80 dollars or less
« on: December 17, 2012, 01:21:11 PM »
I'm looking to purchase a hang on tree stand for 80 or less.  Anyone have any good suggestions?  I would like something that doesn't weith more too much.  Last year I tried out a ladder stand and sat in another hang on.  I really enjoyed the hang out stand.

Take a look at sportsmansguide.com they have a nice one with arm rests and a foot rest and a suspended seat for around that price. I get all mine there.

Hey Justan,

Sportsman guide probably has cheapest available, but they will be steel in that price range (i.e., heavier than aluminum models).

I was afraid of that....I really like yours...I may have to save my money for a few of those...

I was hoping someone has some secret place for lightweight ones..

Start looking on craigslist for used ones especially after the end of the year. I purchased a couple of Summit viper climbers for $150 ea about $100 less than new.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Before the season last year, Camofire.com had some really good deals on stands.  I haven't seen any recently, but might be a few more soon as season is closing.  Just another spot to watch for good deals.

Yes the sportsmansguide stands are steel but they are not overly heavy.   A guy can easily pack one with 30 feet of steel ladder sticks and straps etc. For as far as you would need for set up.
Not sure what they weigh but they aren't real heavy. I wouldn't pay the premium price for aluminum stands.

Guess it all depends on the use of the stand if your packing it in for elk or mule deer over a water hole or wallow and then i could see the need for aluminum , but unless I was handicapped or just to old to be lifting the stands I have I will never justify the cost of aluminum for whitey hunting

Guide Gear hang on for $40 on Amazon. Bought several of these and they are awesome. The platform is pretty big at 24"x29". I would highly recommend them. We are going to buy a ton more of them because of how nice they are.

I've got 4 or 5 of those, and they work just fine.  I say stay cheap on stands, spend big on safety harness, spend medium on climbing sticks, and no more screw in steps for me.  Buy a 4 pack of camo ratchet straps once you start collecting stands, so you can put one extra on the bottom of the stand if the manufacturer supplies a single-point attachment to the tree: much more secure that way.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!
