anyone have any problem with under armour smelling?
« on: January 20, 2013, 09:39:02 PM »
I have some under Armour cold gear that I wear in the late season. When it is all washed and I put it on for the first time it doesn't smell. Then when I start hiking and start to sweat a little it really smells like BO really bad. I was wondering if anyone has  this problem with UA?  I dont have any other problem with any other clothing i am wearing except the UA.  :dunno:  Hope its not just me  :chuckle:

Most synthetics are like that. That's why so many people use wool base layers. You can get synthetics to smell good but then you have scent issues for hunting. Get wool.

Try washing it in hot water with vinegar, no detergent.  Then wash again.  It doesn' t completely fix it, but makes it better.

That easiest fix for this problem is to quit hiking. Hunt from the road like everyone else.  :chuckle:

Just got some sitka. Dont like the UA very much. I wear the 1/4 zip UA shirt this last late season for the first time. It would be fine for the first day or so then start smelling. I washed it in regular detergent. If I wash it then wear it when I am not hiking up and down hills sweating it donesnt have any smell. When I sweat in it the first time after washing it has a smell to it. None of my other clothing smells like it.   :dunno:

same issue here.  i have a few UA cold gear compression shirts and every one of them smells fine out of the wash but once i even so much as think about sweating they start to become fragrant. i have one that i use explicitly for a base layer for playing hockey theres no getting that thing to smell right even out of the wash it smells like hockey, if youve never been around hockey gear let me tell you its it's own species of stink.

sorry i couldnt offer up a solution but its not a unique to you problem

In all honesty I usually don't wear mine when I'm hiking it's just to warm. I usually put it on when I get to my stand and don't have any problems then.

Personally, I like the heat gear even in the cold. I keeps you dry no matter how much you sweat. Never had a problem with it smelling after washing it either :dunno: :chuckle:

I have UA base layers for years with no problem.  This year I switched all my camo to UA and was pleased with the results, the only complaint I have it was not warm enough in the tree stand in December.  But besides that I love it! It performed very well in Sep on my elk hunt with the warm weather gear!
