I'm thinking there is a big difference in the type of two legged critters that are encountered on the West side vs the East side. lets not forget that every year during hunting season the reports start pouring in, about camps being raided, I'm thinking it would be kinda rough to arrive in camp with a bow and find out your not alone.all i know is this, there is no 911, when your in the woods, you are 911. I think if you come from a gun culture, carrying a side arm would not be a bad idea, heck, ya own one, might as well carry it, after all, if your hand gun is not on your person, then its somewhere else. There are those, and they are a majority i believe whom do not come from this culture, and despite an easily acquired skill, simply do not feel confident or comfortable carrying, it is a heavy burden with life changing legal implicationsand if you have to defend yourself. Bottom line to each there own.
I don't feel it necessary while hunting. Learn to be proficient with your bow. If it makes you feel better carrying one go for it. Only time I carry one is while scouting.

Also you tell me what your bow is going to do to a pissed off black bear at yards that is charging? I have been in a couple of situations already with just a bow...not a good feeling
