How do you care for your bore?
« on: July 28, 2013, 07:17:34 PM »
My NW Explorer had some light rust in the bore which popped up since I cleaned it a couple days ago. (Brush, patches, and some windex)  I've gathered that I'm not supposed to put lube in the bore? :dunno:

Mistake?

What do you do?

what I use in mine - http://www.slip2000.com/slip2000_ewl30.php
if your storing it for longer then a month then give it a good coat, no rust here :)

I would stay away from Windex or water based cleaners, some residue left over could have caused the rust because of the water. if you do use it, then put a good coat lube or protector on it, you can always clean away the excess with push rod and few swabs

PAXER is spot on Slip 2000 is A+ in my books. Slip 2000 Carbon Killer is great for shotgun choke tubes; I use it every weekend. Then try the EWL (Extreme Weapons Lube) and if too need  lube a pivot point use EWG (Grease) all the products inhibit rust and corrosion. Best stuff on the market in my book.  :twocents:

I had the same problem as you with light rust in the bore. The product I use is Ballistol. I soak a patch in this stuff and run it up and down the barrel a few times and thats it. Of course thats after I have cleaned the gun and that is the last step I do before I store my gun. You can even use it to clean your guns it is great stuff. I was turned on to it after watching youtube's hickock45's channel. If you every get a chance go and check him out on youtube he's great.  Also do not store your guns in range cases, the foam in the case attracts moisture and that will lead to rust.  As for ballistol go and check it out www.ballistol.com.

Good luck

normally run a clean dry patch down the barrel  day or two after giving it a good cleaning with really hot  water  ,use a little bore butter on the patch to give it just a bit of lube and swab it a few time s the next time i check it  always been coming out good and clean   . good luck

When I have to clean with luke warm soapy water, After its been brushed and mopped out in the water bucket, I.....

#1 wipe the barrel down with a towel
#2 grab a can of Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber " Or firearm cleaner" and spray the heck out of the bore. This product helps remove water and dries out the bore faster. Removes all MOISTURE.
#3 soak a patch with the above product and swab the bore
#4 dry patch
#5 light spray a patch down with Barricade

Put gun away until the next day when i have the urge to shoot it and clean it all over again.

#2 & #3 I feel is the best thing to do with any barrel when using water to clean fouling away. I do the same thing with my Mosin Nagant that shoots corrosive ammo.

Dont use that amateur bore butter - seasoning patches stuff, its all a gimmick to sell you something that SEALS IN any trapped moisture.
