Foxpro wireless range
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:38:31 PM »
What kind of range are you guys getting with a remote with these calls. I use a Phantom wired call. I have been wanting to go wireless, but have heard horrible things about the Phantoms range.

Also I forgot to ask. Any preferences of Foxpro models. Lots of $$$$$ so I want to do some research.

Foxpro is just coming out with a new remote, I don't know if that makes a difference. Most of them (prior to that) are roughly the same. Get the call up off the ground about 3 ft and you can easily get 300yds of unobstructed range.

(I have a Minaska M1, and a Wildlife Technologies 2030, and I've played with the FX3 and the FX5, they're all roughly the same.)

I got the phantom wireless and the range sucks, sometimes 20 yards is too far even with new batts. Not very happy with it.

I have noticed that they need to be line of site for the controlers to work. I have had them barly work at 20 yards and then work fine at 70yards :dunno:

I've tested my Foxpro FX3's remote range.  I got about 170 yds out of it.  Not that I ever actually place my call that far.  I like them a bit closer than that.

Y'all are absolutely corrct about line of sight.  It's a radio transmitter and any obstruction will degrade the signal.

I agree with you on all issues, but when a blade of grass counts as an obstruction i got to wonder what the hell! Id be more than happy with an honest 30-40 yards.

Furthest I've set my FX5 out is 129 yards and no hicups.

I guess I don't know what remote I have, whatever came with the FX3 but I put mine at 50 or less. Line of sight is important. It can be a pain at times but overall no real probs. Just don't bury it or put it behind something and you'll be fine.

I've been looking at the foxpro fx3. Any suggestions about other brands of wireless calls?  :dunno:

I have a foxpro scorpian I like real well, I bought the SP55 speaker from foxpro also. As a test I put it in my back yard and walked 100 yards down the road, it worked, then I went down the road 100 yards the other way so my house was between me and the caller, it worked. I played with a Minaska once, it was real nice also. making sure the batteries are well charged seems to be important.

The new Fury is getting 600 yards if unobstructed.

How about the new Western Rivers Night Stalker. Anybody tried one? Been reading about them the last couple days.

Supposedly waterproof, and lifetime  warranty. Nice looking remote also.
