My 2013 Spring Bear
« on: October 19, 2013, 04:18:32 PM »
Here is a recap from my 2013 North Skagit Spring Bear Hunt. I hunted a total of 11 days and seen 7 bears. I tried to harvest bear number 3 which was a giant but he was too quick at getting into the thick stuff. On May 26, I was in one of the walk-in areas and ran into bear #7. After a brief stare down, I decided to take the straight on shot and hit it dead center in the chest with a 150 Gr bullet from the Tikka T-3 7mm Mag. The bear dropped without taking another step. I was about 3.5 miles from the gate so it took me the remainder of the day to recover it.

The bear was very lean as expected since it had recently came out of hibernation. I estimate the weight at 200 lbs and my taxidermist measured the scull at 18-15/16".

Nice bear Dan. Big skull for 200 lbs. 7 bear sounds like you were hunting in a smorgasbord for bear!

Yes, he would probably be in the 250-270 lb range prior to hibernation. He used up ALL of his fat reserves over the winter, very lean.
