I still need a Whitetail Buck Cape
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:53:47 PM »
If someone scores a whitetail buck that there not going to mount please save me the cape. I lost my 5 x 5 cape from last year in a power surge that blew up my freezer. Just drop me a line if you do.

Thanks guys!

Need a particular neck size?  Am going over this weekend to hopefully put one down.  Can get you a doe cape for sure as Dad and Step-mom have doe tags. Not sure how that would work out though....

Thanks Dekuma!
The deer I shot had a big neck 23" or better (I didn't measure before I lost it) I could get by with a 20-21 min. Just let me know what you come up with, I might be able to stretch it with a ball or something

Good Luck!

Will do what I can for ya.  Will most likely not cape it though, as I have yet to try that and would not want to screw it up for you.  I will tube it from the shoulders up over the head though, or split it at the back of the neck if needed.

If you could tube it that would be great (if its a decent size doe) at least then I could insert a ball and inflate it to enlarge the neck a little.

Hey, good luck to you guys! I'm headin out friday after work for a 5 day hunt  :IBCOOL:

Maybe I'll just have to get another one of those 32"-ers from Missouri next weekend for ya, he he he.  You're going to have to buy a new form buddy!  Good luck this weekend, I wish I could go with ya.  Maybe next year.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

First off good luck finding a doe with larger than a 17" neck.  Even a 20" buck cape is not going to fit a 23" form.  If you over stretch a cape it will cause you a bunch of trouble in the future.  The seam is going to pull apart on the back.  It will eventually cause the hide to crack (nose and eye area).  I've seen it more times than I've wanted to and have done plenty of remounts from other taxi's due to it.  Either get a 23" cape or mount a 20" cape on a 20" form.

If you use a doe cape your deer is going to look quear, litteraly!  Very easy to tell the difference between a doe and a buck in the field.  Going to be even more obvious up close.  Bucks and Doe's don't have the same hair patterns.
