What calls to use this time of year?
« on: January 12, 2014, 07:33:46 PM »
What calls are you guys using this time of year?  The dogs are very vocal down here in Oregon and are not being pressured at all where I hunt. I can locate  them like crazy but can not get them to commit to the call.  I have been starting with a challenge howl or locator howl with my FoxPro and they go nuts.  That is kinda where they stop tho....any tips?

coyote locator followed by Bay bee cottontail, jackrabbit distress, or screaming fox has worked for me in past 2 weeks hunting clear cuts

Pup in distress is a well known secret these days.  Depending on the main prey in the area, prey distress sounds work well too, especially in unpressurized areas.

It seems that predator hunters are pretty hardcore. A few in an area can hit it harder than one might think. I like to walk at least 10 minutes away from the road; one for exerciser and two to get in a little deeper.

Good Luck

This worked very well the first stand I made on a young male but failed to bring in a male about 300 yards out on the next stand.  What worked on him was a locator call followed by the coyote death cry.  He came in on a rope then!
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
