If I had 19 points there is no way I'd put in for more than 1 category (except for points).

On the other hand it would be worth the risk to draw in 2 categories if I had say under 5 pts.- maybe up to 10- depending on which hunts I was putting in for.

The loss of the bull category points really wouldn't be much of a loss. I have yet to find any permits worth applying for in that category.  :dunno:

Well, I guess if you have an east side, modern tag, there are some good options. But I only hunt archery or muzzleloader.

Under eight points I do both, once you get in the teens then I seriously think about both as I don't want two tags for same species.

With a high amount of points I would assume most would be putting in for a upper tier tag that comes along with low draw odds. Lets say that the Quality tag comes with a .75% chance of drawing it and the bull tag comes with a 1.25% chance of drawing. The odds that you draw both are .009%. This is a simple example because there are multiple options in each category but just shows how low the odds actually are.

True- and if those were the odds there would be little reason to not put in for both. Most of the hunts I put in for have considerably better draw odds than that.

I put in for both. I really don't worry about it much, worst case I draw both and zero my points. Then I I can be done with Washington points. Free at last!

Yep. I used that example for something like the Colockum rifle tag where even with 19 points your odds are really low.

I'm with you on this. I've been buying points in the "bull" catagory not out of fear of drawing twice in the same year, but in hopes that (a) in the future they add some hunts that I'm interested in (b) they get rid of that category and the points roll over into another catagory. Not holding my breath for either of those options. But hey, what's 7.10/yr for a point when they are already bilking me for $300+/yr  :chuckle:

P.S. - Still in favor of scraping the points system in favor of a true random draw.

P.P.S. - I've still got points in the "cougar-no dogs" catagory. Can I exchange them for quality elk??? Please!!!  :chuckle:

:yeah: I know a guy that drew quality and anterless in the same unit at the same time. He had tag soup to celebrate his season.  :yike:

I drew a buck tag and second deer tag in 2012.  I filled both tags with my first and second whitetail ( 140 class buck) ever.  I even filled a bonus bear ( blonde bear)tag that year.  Now I didn't have to choose one over the other because I drew a second deer (small doe) and bought a second tag.  It was a very fun hunting year for me.

I have 16 and if i draw both it just means i wont be applying for them next year. I will hunt the quality and forget the bull category.

Last year I drew Quality Bull (muzzy), bull, cow and Master Hunter cow.........

This year I'm sure I'll draw a lot of NOT SELECTED.

Yes, 2012 I drew a quality bull and bull elk tag.  I believe I had 11 points at the time for each.  You only get to tag one animal but as mentioned above, its an easy choice.  I focused solely on the quality tag I drew.

I really don't understand why you would points option for anything this state has beyond a no guarantee. Yes more points allows you better odds than the guy with less points but you still won't draw for certain. I think its funny when some of my buddies that are up in the teens in points tell me next season they will quit doing points options and draw there tag. Makes me wonder if they know what state were in.
