101 Antlerless for my Father and Son
« on: June 30, 2014, 08:41:19 AM »
I'm taking my father and 9 year old out towards Curlew Lake for the October opener and plan to do some scouting in the next couple months. I've heard the whitetails are mostly down low on private land but hoping I can get some direction of where I may be able to hit them hard on some public property. Please PM me with any useful advice. Thanks all.

That should be a very easy tag to fill and not worth the gas money to scout for doe if you live on the west side IMHO. Pick up a GMU map for the area and look at the small parcels of blm, dnr. etc.. there are lots of them in the area that are intermixed with private land and should hold animals.

This should b a fun and easy hunt. Find public land that backs onto some agriculture and sit at dusk and dawn. Just shot does though leave the bucks for me

It seems that the whitetails are at all elevations around Republic. Finding a couple does should not be difficult. I would recommend finding some public ground near a private field. Watch where the deer exit the field in the morning when they head to their beds. Be waiting  in the timber for a shot. If you're real ambitious you go talk to some land owners for permission. Good luck.

Just remember that you can't shoot does until the Thursday after the opener.  It doesn't open right away like it used to.
