Opening day
« on: October 11, 2014, 10:12:02 PM »
Opening day of duck season. Got 4 ducks, cause my shooting skillz need help. Plus, the mosquitoes were hell. I was lucky to not bleed to death.

Got a drake wood duck, finally, and a hen cinnamon teal, 2 mallards.

My lab Moose,  is finally a happy doggie. he is in heaven for 4 months, then hell for 8.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

Your not kidding about the Mosquitos. I got a bite down in one of my ears that's driving me nuts. What blind were you in?

Not a bad start to the year. Sorry to hear about the Mosquitos. It makes it tough to sit outside and enjoy it.

13a. Where were u? Reservation or lottery?

When shooting started, I had ducks coming from all directions.
High and  on the deck, even tweety birds.
Between fast movers in the dark, and mosquitoes, I didn't shoot my first duck until 0710.
Very little water close to the blind. The weeds are chest high.

Although I wanted to mount the woodie, he got a little messed up. Full frontal shot.
The hen cinnamon, not real good colors, and also, messed up.
They will taste good tho.

We were resi #8 I think we picked 5th took blind 5. I think if we woulda been patient and not just ducks at shoot time, we probably coulda got all mallards. They were really wanting in there about the time we finished are limits.

Congrats on the woodie.
Question: How do you know you shot a hen cinnamon teal? They look exactly like a hen green wing teal and this time of year most of the drakes don't have their colors. Actually drake cinnamon teal don't get their breeding plumage till our season ends.

The duck in the picture is a blue wing teal.  Way too much blue on the wing for a cinnie!

Not a BWT. There are some in the Skagit-Stanwood area, but they migrate out pretty quick.
I thought it was a BWT, but the official at the check station said it was a cinnamon by the large blue panels on the wings.
