Quality habitat created on the cheep
« on: October 13, 2016, 11:46:32 AM »
Getting close got a few project propertys this year, cleared allot of cattails this summer here is a pic of a spot that was so thick their was no wildlife around I cleared the brush and cattails and
Opened it up
Instantly i had wetland birds in the area, deer started using it, total change from the stagnate dead overgrown spot it was.
I then  added water controal valves and a small impoundment  and flooded it to kill everything I did not want.
I then drew the water down and got it planted a little late. Water controal Valves are open to keep the water down during the storm this weekend,   but come mid november I will draw up the water and presto a cerial bowl full of wild millet and Hogs blood, buckwheat and smartweed, 4-12 " of water is reccomended for dabbling ducks so i will keep most of the water at that depth using the drain and overflow valves I added.

I harvested most the millet seed myself pipe and valves free from work, bought the buckwheat, landscaping fabric and jap millet seed  so im into it about $50

Goes to show with moist soil management most any spot can be great habitat for a bit of hard work and a few bucks.
I will add pics with birds  of a few of my projects when the birds show up

Cool project!
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Better hope the Nature Nazi's, don't see this. They will have your arse in court, faster than you can say, sheet. Disrupting a wetland is a sin, in their book.

This is a old pasture and is classified as open space AG. This is a runoff off a man made AG dranage canal and on private property, none of it has any enviromental classification that would prohibit this.  the disruption area and water holding amount is well under any regulated size.
Yes if this was a classified "wet area" or wetlands etc  you would a full impact statement and  review, permits and oversight ect.

If it wasn't classified as a wetland it likely will be now.  Private property rights are basically gone these days due to environmental regulations.  Good luck and looks like it should attract some ducks.  8)
