Colockum cows?
« on: March 15, 2018, 06:54:29 PM »
I’m relatively new to elk hunting but have hunted the colockum unit a few times and would like to hunt it again this year. I heard that they’re taking away cows for the early archery season over there? Is this true? Or is this just a rumor? Thanks.

You can find out tomorrow in Wenatchee if you attend the meeting regarding this proposal and others. Or wait another month until the regs come out. I'd expect that someone will report on here after they attend the meeting in Wenatchee tomorrow.

I’ll keep a eye out for it than. Really hoping this doesn’t go through. But if it does guess I’ll just find another spot to hunt

Thank god they’re shutting otc cows down up there. Looks worse than mf the last three years. There are spikes in there. Just have to find them. I usually get about 2 dozen a year on cam. Remember they are proposing to take a few other units cows away too. Going to be combat hunting in a few units

There is a ton of elk in that area. And even more hunters.

Yup, miss managed. There is no way there should have been that big of a swing in modern cow tags.

Did anyone attend the meeting and have the information that was reviewed?  Please update this thread if possible.  Any link to the fishing and hunting web page on meeting notes?  Thanks

I heard WSB was there and really hammered the commission to oppose any closure for archery cows in region 3. From what I was told we should get a cow season early maybe just a shorter season like a week to hunt cows

So is that for the benefit of the herd or hunters?  I don't hunt the area but few years back when they went to something like 400-500 cow permit per hunting method,  :bash:.

I didn't attend but my dad and other members on here did. Correct on the short cow season as well as other changes. I will let them chime in with more specifics.

So they are gonna give out 100 permits through the draw for early archery?

There doing away with permit options now we're either getting a no change season or a limit time antleress season.
