Sorel boots
« on: October 18, 2019, 04:05:03 PM »
Anyone use sorel type boots hunting in cold weather.  Haven’t had a pair since i was a kid a million years ago.   Saw a good deal on some and wondered.  Never heard of anyone wearing them so assume they aren’t.  Are they cold, bad traction?

I had sorel caribou for years when I was in high school and after. They aren't bad as far as warmth goes but for me, their ideal use is more for like shoveling snow and such. They aren't great to hike very far in and my feet seemed to get cold when just sitting.

Love my sorels. Last pair lasted 20 years. That said, not enough support for hiking. However, feel great getting back to camp and changing.

When I started college in pullman in 1990 I bought a pair of Sorel caribous and they lasted 15 years or better. A few years ago I bought a pair of Sorel conquest boots and I wore them 4 time before the leather part separated from the rubber bottom. I don’t know if there pac boots are still good or not, but they’re not made for hiking, if that’s what you’re looking for. 2 years ago I bought a pair of  Schnee’s Hunter 2 boots and love them. They’re more expensive than Sorel but you’re definitely getting what you pay for.

Same as others have said.  Great boots for around the property but not built/made for serious hunting/hiking.

My boys both loved their Sorrels when hunting.
I could not imagine hiking miles in them, but it did not seem to bother either of my sons.

I have used my Caribou's for the past 12 years every winter at work , and at home home for shoveling etc . Love them for the warmth , hate them because my socks always wind up around my toes .

That sure is the truth. I remember when i wore mine I would use tape around the top to make sure my socks stayed up  :o
