Lots of weekends to make a trek over and take a peak. Learn the roads and have a good time.

14 points must be the magic number. My hunting partner drew with 14...congrats.  We will be scouting and learning the area this summer. Lucky us, we only have a 7 hour drive but can’t wait to have a good time and make the most of this hunt. Maybe we will see you up there. Good luck!

Get a tractor with a front loader and a rear winch with a couple of miles of cable

Time to do your scouting, jumping on and requesting info is not the way to do it. Learn the area.

about all you can do is look roads and the area. Looking for moose now is useless as September approaches the bulls will roam miles. You could look at areas on google earth and any info you can gather and head over a few days before opener would be much better time spent if time is a issue. What you see just prior to opener will be of far greater value

I put my time in and learned a lot when I had the tag last year, I had some good info about certain areas but the moose can be anywhere in the southern half of the unit, south of sullivan lake.  I never went north of that lake, probably only had one guy tell me to look north but most said look south.  I'm also from the west side and I spent every other weekend scouting the week after I found out I drew.  When my hunt started on the 1st I had already been in the area for 5 days, I killed my bull on the 10th and put 1,800 miles on my truck!  Everyone that was in the know about moose said, drive!!!!  cover miles, moose love walking the roads during the rut.  My partner killed his bull in a walkin unit by sullivan lake, I called in my first moose there, so you don't have to road hunt if you don't want. I'd get a winch that you could put in the back of your truck and some ramps, that way if you do kill one on the road you can just hoist him in the truck.  Enjoy this hunt, you'll learn the area is huge, thick as the west coast and special.  If I was to do it over I would take my electric bike behind some of those long gated roads and call.  Don't miss the rut, that part is pretty intense. I should add, gated roads are every where.
