Do I need to transfer a pin fired pistol. It's pre 1898 and it is not rim fired or center fired.

Without having inspected the firearm..
 I would say generally you are good to go if it can be verified that it was produced pre 1898 and is not a modern ammo firearm.  Stop in a shop somewhere that you trust and ask, they'll usually be able to tell you with some degree of certainty.
