All I can say is I hope he ends up back in the yard. No justification for someone trying to sneak him off private property. My guess is he's wandering around, smelling the roses on other properties... :chuckle:

Are we really stretching a buck that hasn't shown up for a couple days into a poaching case?

No not saying it was poached just that from history of what has happened over the last 3 or 5 years I am saying it is a possibility. One of the 3 pointers from 2 years ago was shot a week before season with an extremely small caliber firearm (likely a 22)  in the neck, however the shooter did not kill the deer and it wandered around for 2 days  only to have to be dispatched by a Gammie this was the same deer that someone tried to lasso with a piece of clothes line. Another 3 pointer the same year was also shot and killed prior to opening of season.
So no not saying it was poached just from knowing what has transpired will say it has a better than average possibility.
Nope not worried about being bashed have been bashed by bigger and tougher folks

Hopefully he is just learning how to not be found in the daylight.  But I would be suspicious as well.

Don't you have mt lions and other predators too?

I certainly wouldn't rule out poaching, but the odds are low when accounting for vehicle strikes, predators and natural buck behaviors this time of year.

I would say a very strong ‘Maybe, maybe not.’
🤪
Critters seem to have the ‘ability’ to disappear just when we want them around.
Many years ago I had a Special Permit for one of the Watersheds. Two weeks. I could take one person in with me. Once you got your critter you were locked out.
Had a line of friends that wanted to go in and explore with me. The plan was to ‘play’ until the last day of the hunt.
EVERY day we saw deer. LOTS of deer that were easily within range. On one of the ‘hikes’ I touched a doe and buck that walked by us. It was a given I would get my critter.
The last day came and I saw ‘0’. Nada. Not even at a distance. It was INSANE!

Cuterebra are NOT cute!
