Rabbits?
« on: December 21, 2021, 09:32:27 AM »
Where’d my rabbits go? I counted 12 around the house Saturday evening. Now that it has gotten a bit colder I haven’t seen one since.

😂 That’ll ruin my plans! Wife says we’ve got too many…..they eat up her lupine in the spring. I was gonna shoot half of them this week. I haven’t had fried rabbit in ages. Saw a recipe for rabbit confit. Was gonna try that too ‘Celt I was gonna call it cottontail confit. 😁

😂 I saw 4 right at dusk. Something has them addled. Lots of blackberry brambles on each side of house…I doubt critters got most of them. Time will tell. I may get my fried and confit rabbits yet!

I haven't seen a single one since I waged full war on the blackberries this summer.  We would have 2-3 in the back yard every morning and evening, sometimes more.  So, look for areas with blackberry vines which is probably not narrowing it down much.

45 of them mysteriously disappeared from my yard the last 3 years.  I haven't seen one in 6 months.

Set out a trail cam and see what is coming around?

They were pretty much absent in the far east for a couple decades, showing up all over the place now

There still here. About a week ago they started back feeding in the yard. I counted 13 last evening. They were doing a good job of hiding there for a while. The snow we had revealed coyote tracks all over the hill but nothing else.

I culled 3 the other day and made confit with them. It was ok but next batch of culling I think I’ll just flour and pan fry. FYI confit got a light coating of oil (smoked pork fat) on everything in the kitchen. Black granite countertops needed a good cleaning after cooking that.
