Not a Harley guy but am interested in an electric dirt bike.  The only really viable bike was the Alta.  The rest are really pricy and limited by range.  Range is the big wildcard for me.

Alta is out of business.   There's the Zero FX:

It will never be embraced by HD customer base.

This is a good thing for Harley Davidson. Their customer base is getting older & older with more aging out of motorcycles every year. If they don’t find another customer base in addition to their current one, they’ll be in more trouble than they already are.

This.
HD doubled down on the ‘biker’ image that they helped to foster, and it has not carried over much to the younger generation. Now it is made fun of and almost looked down on.
People have gotten hung up on HD being a V twin, but they also did singles and two strokes, but there again, they doubled down on the V twin OHV set up. The were not the first to do a V twin, either.
It will be interesting to see if they survive. I would guess the ‘Fat Cats’ at the top of the heap are having to re evaluate their ‘big pay’ they have been riding since their ‘boon time’.
Indian came in with a clean slate and was able to leverage it with advancements that have been accepted, and have taken a good part of HD’s share of the market.
Too, HD pissed off a large part of their fan base when they stopped supporting/working on the older stuff. Those are the people that kept them afloat during the ‘rough times’, and I am sure some did not forget it.
I think they were putting too much emphasis on new markets overseas (mostly China).  With China so shaky now, HD is left with only a few options at home.

Pricey? You mean like $12,900 pricey for an 80hp Stark Varg?

That seems reasonable.  I was thinking about that KTM that was 15k and you needed to buy another 2.5k to get a spare battery.

I rode a couple of weeks ago with a guy on an Alta.  He left after three hours and still had plenty of range.

I will get one when they get a little more mainstream.

Pacific NW Moto has several Zeros in stock, on their showroom floor, that you can actually look at, sit on, even take on a test ride.

Born to be mild :chuckle:

Nothing mild about E-motos.  You should try one.  Make sure that you have a good grip before you open the throttle.

Harley ride, rumble and look is what made the big twins unique
If I wanted a crotch rocket I’d have bought one

Well, there’s no rumble.  Just a whirr, or just the sound of the tires rolling, the wind, people talking on the sidewalks, birds chirping, it’s a quiet ride.  Look at the speedo and you’re going a whole lot faster than you realized.  It's not for everyone.

They can just pipe the sound of a big Twin through the speaker like they did for the Mustang!
 :hello:

Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
Psalm 144.1
