Comment now: new state recreation plan
« on: December 04, 2022, 10:10:10 AM »
The state is updating their overarching recreation plan (called SCORP) and is accepting comments until December 18.
This plan sets the overall goals for grant programs including boat launches, firearms ranges, habitat acquisitions, parks and trails of all types.

I've reviewed this plan and have one MAJOR concern: it is way too focused on what the user looks like (diversity/equity/minority) and not on the ground improvements like maintenance, building, and acquisition of actual places for people to go.  The previous plan had a balance of goals: some for reaching underserved populations and some for acquisition and upkeep of what facilities we already have.  This plan seems to care about the color and gender identity of the person using a boat launch and says virtually nothing about providing a boat launch or maintaining in the first place!

Just from what I’ve read on here, if I lived on the west side I’d be sending as many letters, emails and phone calls as I could to improve law enforcement/safety at trailheads and boat launches. The break in/vandalism stories I read about on here sound awful.
