Anybody hunt with a 25 Creedmoor?
« on: June 17, 2025, 04:40:13 AM »
I picked up a Horizon Firearms Venatic in 25 Creedmoor the other day. Though I've had it less than a month, results are excellent so far.
I was also impressed with how this mild mannered cartridge performed in gel too.
Anybody else have a 25 Creedmoor? What have you hunted with it? What bullets were you using and how did they perform?

I don't have a 25 CM, but I am 25 CM curious!  I been a long time 25 rem shooter. But, I picked up a Kimber 6.5 CM 5 or so years ago because it's super light weight and is a shooter.

Due tell more about your 25.  How's it feel to shoot?     For example, I ran across a guy out hunting carrying a 300 WM while I was carrying my 6.5. I let him hold it. He was impressed with how light it was. He said he got his wife one, and it was like shooting a BB gun. I said yes, it is. He was thinking he needed something more for Elk. I killed them and a moose with an arrow, I feel pretty good about the CM.  I would have used my 25 in  MT for elk (before the CM), but because of the grizzly thing, I carry a 300 WM I have had since 78.

Sorry, I guess i want to see myself type. How does it feel shoot?

I have a Horizon Venatic in 25 Creedmoor with a 22" barrel. It weighs 6 pounds 8 ounces without a scope. I haven't weighed it fully set up yet, but it probably  weighs around 8.5-9 pounds fully loaded and with a suppressor. It's a dream to shoot: fit is great, trigger is outstanding, and recoil is quite mild. My 9 year old son shoots it with no issues (this is the first rifle more powerful than a 22 centerfire he's ever shot). Accuracy is outstanding with both Hornady factory loads. It's a nice rifle to carry too. I'm taking it to Africa next month and if he continues to shoot it as well as he has at the range, he'll take his first big game animal with it (probably an impala). I'm planning on using it for impala, springbok, and the like. Based on what results are like with them, I may shoot something bigger with it. I'm also bringing a Bergara in 7mm PRC that will be my "heavy" rifle for this hunt.

I plan on doing a side by side comparison between how recoil feels on the 25 Creedmoor and my 6.5 Creedmoor at the range soon to see what (if any) noticeable difference there is in recoil between them.

My daughter used one for a few deer. It’s a wicked wicked round.

Love the quarter bores!

I bought a .22 Creedmoor a few months ago.  It’s an impressive yote round with the 62 grain ELD-VT at 3850.

Man, talk about a frozen rope! I'll bet that's impressive on coyotes indeed!
What rifle do you have?

There weren’t many options, but I went with a Fierce Carbon Rogue with a 24” barrel.   I dropped a Trigger Tech Diamond in it and topped it with an NX8 4-32x.

It’s a fun little rig.   Shoots 1/2” MOA without much load tinkering.   Shot everything pretty good.

I need to try the 75 grain Eld-m and see if I can find the lands.  Should be able to get that bullet going 3550 or so.  May be able to get it to tighten up a bit too.  I only have 100 rounds through it.
