Also looking for help deciding on a scope
« on: Yesterday at 01:33:46 PM »
I have traditionally bought Vortex, because of cost/FFP warranty.  But haven't had the best of luck with my Strike eagle 5x25 being great, so I was looking to upgrade.

I was trying to decide between the Leupold vx6HD 4-24x52. or the Nightforce NX8 - 4-32x50mm. the cost is about the same between the two.

What does everyone think?  or do you have either of them?

Thanks for the help!

Nightforce all the way. I have the 4-32. I love it. I’d buy nightforce first every time, Trijicon second.

Nightforce if weight isnt a factor VX6 if it is. I own both but I run leupold on my light weight rifles just to keep the weight down.
Shut up and Hunt!

Yep NF NX8 hands down! Have had Leupolds , Zeiss, Vortex and NF . NF NX8 and NXS are on all of my rifles now - would never trust a vortex on a hunting rifle

My VX6 7-42 had problem with the turret getting stiff then locking up.  Sentbit in for repair.  Worked for awhile then happened again.  I only use NF now.  NX8 4-32 mostly.  Had a ZCO 4-20, sold it, extra weight wasn’t worth it.

When developing loads to shoot 5” groups at 1000 yards you have to eliminate all the variables you can.  Scope variance is step one.  Get a good one and lock it down.  I use green sleeve bearing  locktite under rail and/or rings, blue locktite on base screws.  I’ve been using rosin on scope rings to eliminate sliding issues.

I just mounted up two nightforce NX8 scopes….love them.  All my hunting rifles sport nightforce, zeiss and a couple older leupolds.

Nice!!  Appreciate all the wisdom everyone.

What's hilarious is when you talk to store people they are all about the major brands(vortex, Leupold).  When you talk to people who actually use it and hunt, Nightforce.

Just pulled the trigger at Sportsmans, they even let me use a !0 percent off coupon.  not bad.

Thanks again

Gun counter guys can get kickbacks for selling certain brands, particularly at big box stores. So they push those brands even if they're not the best for the buyer's use case or just a garbage product in general. Some hilarious stories in the thread below, and some concerning ones...

I never take a gun counter employee's opinion as fact. I'm sure there are some knowledgeable ones out there though.

Yeah those gun counter guys are weird. Handling oiled metal all day without gloves...I think it's seeping into their brains.

So anyway.  The problem with getting a Nightforce scope is that afterwards, you will want everything to be at least as good as that scope.
