Lost a Trapping Legend
« on: October 07, 2025, 08:28:43 AM »
Very sad news, Mr. Jack Whitman has passed away.  He was such an amazing guy.  Always willing to help with trapping wolves.  Gave me my first Wolf Trapping class.  Prayers for his family.  He trapped large Predators all over the world.  Jack being presented with his Idaho Trappers Hall of Fame at Salmon, ID.  I didn't realize how sick he was at the time.   :'(

Still getting my head around this.
Jack and Lisa are good friends I see often.
He was very limited the last couple  years.
No way for a guy like him to live.
His outdoor resume reads like something few can even comprehend.
RIP Jack.
You are missed.

I took my wolf certification class from Jack. He convinced me that catching wolves isn’t rocket science. I’ve trapped wolves in some of the same country where Jack trapped and collared wolves for IDFW. Camped in the same places. Now because of Jacks help I’m still chasing wolves. Sitting in wolf camp now.
A fond memory of mine is when I got to introduce Jack to another trapping mentor of mine, Keith Gregerson. Outside of the mess hall at a NTA western regional in Lewiston. Jack, with his hearing, was having a hard time keeping up with fast talking Keith. I had to do some interpreting. Jack and I had a good laugh over that interaction.
His wisdom, patience, curiosity, and talents are peerless.

His experiences in Alaska are legendary.
Got tired of his friends crashing planes so he bought his own and taught himself to fly it.
Safer that way he said.
He eventually after years of flying himself daily even went in and became licensed.
Lol

The man was a stud.
