Maragret Bulls

I haven't seen any maragret bull pictures for this year. Has anyone filled their maragret tags yet.

Its not the quality bull tag it once was.  I would call it a meat hunt

I was told they closed about 15,000 acres of the high lakes area.  That it now is no access area period not even by foot. Thats to bad high lakes are where the better bulls are found. All tag holders should make a phone call to WDFW. Doesn't sound like a quality hunt anymore.

Maragret has to have more satelite bulls per acre then any other unit in this state. The bigger bulls in that unit hang out up on top near the Lo-Wit/Maragret border. If you wan't a nice one, or see a nice one, take the 99 road to road 26, and hike up out of that first trailhead "I believe trail #1" to the top.

The entire "High Lakes" area was sold by Weyerhaeuser several years ago to Cabela's real estate division. They have a bunch of it for sale now for about 20 times what they paid for it.  I think the cheapest lot is around a quarter million.  I don't know for sure, but the remainder will probably be kept by Cabela's and so only the VIP's, or someone with a Margaret tag and enough money to hire their outfitter and can hunt it.   I know a couple guys that own parts of it.

As was said earlier; there are better bulls elsewhere in the Margaret unit.

Oh that's right- I almost forgot about that. That was one of the reasons I was going to stop spending my money at Cabelas.

My Dad and my Grandpa drew the margaret bull tag in 2004.  And again in 2008.  I have been scouting and along with them on their hunts up there.  We have gone up there every september during the rut and buggled bulls since they first drew the tag and had lots of fun. When we started in 2004 you could see over 100 elk per day easy.  Now the last couple of years we are lucky if we see any elk.  There are a few really big bulls still up there.  And I have a pretty good idea where they live at but that hunt is no where as good as it used to be.

It wsn't Cabelas that bought it. It was some realestate investers from the Tacoma area, they were just offering it for sale through Cabelas.
