Antique fishing gear
« on: October 19, 2011, 06:54:44 PM »
Here is a bunch of old fishing stuff my father recently gave me.  Some belonged to my grandfather who passed away in '67, some to my grandmother, and the remainder to my dad.
Most everything is in excellent condition, some of it is unused, with the only wear being some not insubstantial tackle box induced paint wear.

I've been taking everything apart and re-lubing where I can, and removing all the ancient line.  Weird thing is, my grandparents had a thing for using monofiliment line on fly reels.  It doesn't work well, and is really unsightly.  They also preferred spin casting reels to spinning reels.  As a kid, I always wanted spinning reels, but we had the casters.

I'm especially looking forward to using the circa '64Wright and McGill and the 1970 ABU 5000.

Nice 88A reel you should use it; here is a little info on it. The Eagle Claw reel is a nice close faced reel dating to the late 50's to 60,s. price rage $15.00 to $20.00 more depending on condition and with box and paperwork. The Wright & McGill in some cases will have the Eagle Claw brand name on it as I think you have it can range from $35.00 to $ 70.00.

Thanks!  I plan on using as much stuff as I can.  I especially like the 88A and  the Norseman for their old time panache.  I'm surprised that a 88A can be worth so much.  My E-bay research showed some very mediocre prices, on the order of $8 to $22.  Not even close to being worth selling especially when you consider their family value.  I think I'll use them and enjoy them.

The ABU is really cool, you could swear it was made yesterday
