Ar-15 stocks "update stock picked"
« on: December 29, 2011, 02:57:22 PM »
Well after getting a bonus this year I am going to put together another ar-15. My problem is I HATE looking for stocks. Most the time I go with the standard a2 stock because I cant stand a telescopic stock. They never feel very tight tight and always a bit slopy. Also don't like the cheek well on most of them. So I have been surfin the net for days looking into stocks. There is 2 of each style that I like. So I am asking if anyone on here runs these stocks and likes them. "I know a few guys have them so please share your thoughts" Thanks

fixed stocks:
Magpul PRS
RRA operator a2

Telescopic:
RRA CAR
Magpul UBR

There is one other one I have seen that is made by MAKO that is a fixed stock but I don't know if I like thr lines on it.

i have the rock river one.  i like it because its a lot heaftier than most.  the new magpuls have that lock that makes them VERY tight.  my buddy has one that is awesome as well.

Do you have the Car or Operator A2?

Yeah I love the lock on the UBR I think that would make it very solid! I cant stand a rifle stock that giggles :chuckle:

Magpul CTR's lock up dead solid, the only time they will be a little sloppy is when a person doesn't use a mil spec tube with the mil spec CTR. They purchase a mil spec AR and put a commercial CTR on and it is sloppy. The CTR. Comes in a commercial and a mil spec. The mil specs are bullet proof, one just has to have the correct tube for the model of CTR they purchase. Now when it comes to the cheek hold and running optics Larue Tactical has solved that issue with a quality product. This riser system is for the mil spec CTR and not the commercial. You can purchase just the riser system and install it on a mil spec CTR  or purchase the complete stock/ Riser assembled as a package through Larue.

I use the RRA Operator CAR on mine, The cheek weld fits me. I'm slowly changing all mine to it. For the money it's hard to beat IMHO

Thats 10, just the kinda of info I am looking for. My 2 pet peeves with ar-15 is no cheek rest since I like to really put my face into a stock and a slopy stock.

no cheek rest

Put your nose up against the charging handle :)

Make sure you lock that thing down! I saw a guy get smacked in the nose once with a charging handle and it was bad enough to make me a fanatic when it comes to making sure my charging handle is locked down before shooting.

:chuckle: Of course :chuckle: I always lock mune back in after catching the bolt. Then use the bolt release to chamber the gun. I can not stand using the slide to charge the gun. Just pulling it back and letting it fly forward makes me pucker :yike: Also chews the finish off the indent where the latch catches, and grinds it down after a lot of use like that.

There would have to be a catastrophic failure of some sort in the receiver involving the bolt carrier group for the charging handle to move while firing and if that was the case locked down or not it would happen. I work a side charger all the time and the charging handle is never used or moves, it's just there as the secondary. The only direction a charging handle can be forced is forward by bolt movement ????

I watched it happen, the guy was about to qualify with an old M16A1, he qualified with the same rifle a week later. All of our rifles were pretty beat, you get enough slop in the upper from running that charging handle and the back of the gas key will catch it if you don't have it locked forward when you fire the rifle.
