Getting back into dogs
« on: May 21, 2025, 08:08:45 AM »
Well, I am down 120 pounds and feel like a completely new man. Getting the knees replaced sometime in late July or Aug, hopefully find out pretty soon. Been feeling SO GOOD that I am getting back into dogs. Picked up a pup a couple of weeks ago and in the 2nd week in June running down to Utah to buy a new dogbox and then stopping over in Wyoming to pick up 3 dogs from a good friend. A pup trainer who is 9 years old, but has been on a 100 or so lions and about 200 bears. Another cat/coon dog that is fairly silent, usually catches the coons on the ground. Hoping he can tree me some bobcats this winter and a 9 month old female just getting started. Then stopping in for a couple of days in Salmon, ID for the Idaho trapping convention.

Great for you Machias and good to hear!

My FIL had double knee replacements ~6 years back, and after the initial recovery has been much improved so hopefully similar for you.

Enjoy the pups and hunting adventures!

Loooong trip this past weekend!  Drove down to Elko, NV for the Western NTA, then swung over to Altamont, UT and picked up a new dogbox.  Left there and drove over to Pavillion, WY and got three dogs, then ran home through the night to beat Monday's heat.  I'm way too old to drive that much anymore!   :chuckle:

The dogs and the dogbox.

That is awesome!  I really miss having big hounds/tree dogs sometimes.  Are the three hounds you picked up already running/treeing?

Just the two older males.  The 11 month old female is very lightly started and the pup won't be ready to start until around Jan.
