Gobbler down
« on: April 30, 2012, 07:22:42 PM »
Thursday:  Leave home 3:30 AM.  Pouring Rain.

Friday:  Sit in blind.  Birds gobbling then goofballs show up and contine to shake gobble call, fire off a couple shots and spook birds.  Afraid of getting a blind full of shot we decide to get out of there.

Saturday:  Sit in blind, no shots.  Saturday evening as we are driving to tent a Fish and Game officer tells us that a cougar nearby ate a house cat out of someone's garage.  Big cat comfortable around people.  Told us if we heard hounds that we should back off but that we could shoot if confronted.  15 minutes at our tent we heard the hounds.  Then they got closer and closer.  Then heard 2 big booms and heard the branches cracking as the cat fell out of a tree.

Sunday:  Sit in blind.  A few hens and jake walk by.  Take no shot.

Monday:  Raining.  Wake up with water in tent.  Late start.  Set up at 7:30 and get bird by 9:30.

GREAT time with my son!

Only had my cellphone for a pic:

Nice bird.  Sounds like you had a good time with your son.  I had min out on Saturday, we didn't see any birds but stalked into a couple of deer, got to within 10 yards before I decided that we should back out.  I love being in the woods with my son.

Bowhunter

The cougar was in the Colville area.  At one point I was swapping out my nitro turkey loads for 00 buck!  Cougars are almost as exciting as turkeys!  Hopefully we can get my son a bird with his bow before heading home.

My son and I got home tonight safely.  Great time together.  Saw a fox, elk, owl, and more.  Tonight I cleaned the turkey and the beard was over 9" and the spurs were over 1".  The only thing we didn't succeed on was getting Bow Boy his first gobbler with his bow.  Hopefully the next trip.
