The last parts I needed for the White Lightning came in early this week. I installed the .312N Williams Fire sight and the Fire Sight Hood.

I then bore sighted it and was ready to test the whole setup this morning. I through a 4 wheeler on the truck and head for the Palouse River. Got to one of my hunting areas about 8 this morning, unloaded the 4 wheeler and made a short run into an area to check for elk. Pretty much a wasted trip but I just wanted to verify that they were higher in elevation.
After the ride I swung by Strychnine Creek and headed to the gravel storage are to sight the Lightning in with the Lehigh 50 cal 270 grain sabotless bullets I am using.

When i got to the Gravel Piles I set a target out at 25 took a couple of shots and all looked pretty good. So I moved the target to 100 yards. I moved the powder up from a 100 grains to 110 grains which is my normal hunting load.
You can see in one of the pictures above the rear peep is a Williams WGRS... I call them a slide and glide sight - i actually hate slide and glide I really like the uniform clicks to move a sight around. If I could put a Williams FP on the rifle - it would be on in a heart beat.
At 100 yards my first two shots were a bit low and maybe a bit right. So I loosened the screw and slid and glid the sight up the ramp 3 marks tightened it down and decided I was not going to even try to correct for windage yet. Just the moving of the sight up the ramp might even move the windage some. Well, it seemed it did and it actually went the right direction. Three shot group 2 was high, so again loosen the the slide and glide and glide down just a wee bit. Shoot group 3... I can live with that right now but I really do want it just a bit higher.
But what a Klutz... look at shots 1&2 of groups 2 and 3... Then look at shot 3 of both groups!!! Me trying to keep the group close and work against one of Semi's rules of shooting... KLUTZ -KLUTZ...

OK... I am bored with shooting paper so I put the birds out at 80 - 90- 100 yards to finish my day shooting... I really do like breaking things versus putting holes in paper...
Shots 1 and 2 went just as planned using a 6:00 hold (the bird sitting on top of the fire sight blade - bang birds gone. Shot 3??? I was not as sure of it when it went off, stilled worring about shot #3 from on the paper targets.... Sure enough when the smoke cleared that dang bird was still standing - really ticked me off!!!.
Then out of curiosity instead of going to the pickup to load up again I grabbed the binoculars and looked...

Thinking of Semi's Laws/Rules - I packed up and came home!!!
