Some goats
« on: July 01, 2012, 06:01:33 PM »
This weekend (Saturday) Black Ram and I decided to hit the hills looking for critters. We saw 1 button nub buck, 6 branched bulls, a cow with calf and 25 plus Mountain goats. Didn't have the camera ready for the bulls but got a few of the goats.

We took off hiking and I spotted a white spot about 3/4 mile away up on a ridgeline on a little point. We decided to see how close we could get and try to get some pictures. We skirted of to the left of the ridgeline then once on it we slowly move up it. The wind was at our backs and moving up the ridge and we thought odds of the goat winding us pretty good but kept going. Finally after about an hour we got within 20 yard of the goat and notice a 2nd one with it. The Horns were sticking up above the brush and they looked to be over 12 inches long. I had the camera ready and just as I put it up to my eye they got up and scooted down the cliff. Of course I was uber excited and blew the shot (dumb me hadn't changed the camera settings to what I wanted and it was a new camera so changing them quickly wasn't possible. Also I slipped so the pic is not good but here are a few. One thing I learned is that with every mistake a good lesson is learned. This was the first time I had seen goats up close and personal and not 3 miles away. It was an awesome day to say the least.

Sweet. I'm hoping to get out a couple times in these next couple of weeks to get some goat pics!

Im hoping to get up high in some other areas this year and hopfully get more pics. I keep going though it my head and trying to figure out how that first pic came out so blurry. I was pretty bumed but thats how it goes sometimes. More practice forsure. Anyone know if there are goats up near Lake Ingalls? Im heading up there at the end of the month for 3 days as long as the few guys dont cancel on me. I have a feeling they might. :bash:
